INSPIRE Tech Choice is Discouraging

HTTP REST is not about light weight (RFC 2616 is just as heavy as a WxS spec), it's about working with the grain of the Web. [more ...]

Are GML Documents Hypermedia?

XLink is part of GML, but I've never seen a WFS return GML that links to other resources. Does anybody use GML like this, and what client would they use?

Web Geo-Processing, Pull Style

hace 15 horas 54 mins
The growing consensus is that map image and feature services can be (and should be) done RESTfully. Is there any aspect of web GIS that cannot? Geo-processing, perhaps? [more ...]

Update on Near Term Goals for TileCache

hace 15 horas 54 mins
Threshold bug: Fixed. 1.9-rc1,2 released, and a user even confirmed that it fixed his threshold problem (yay)! This will probably be the last 1.9 release, and includes significantly improved error reporting. Refactor for drop in Layers: done, in the ‘refactor’ branch. I think I’ve maintained backwards compatibility at the ‘using a config file’ level, even, [...]

Rendering Shapely Geometries in Matplotlib

Vie, 20/07/2007 - 17:00
I hope you'll agree that this is considerably simpler than the code I used at the 2005 Open Source Geospatial workshop. An even more direct solution for ogr.py fans would be to provide the Numpy array interface directly from OGR geometries. [more ...]

Collaborative Mapping: The Business Thread, cont.

Vie, 20/07/2007 - 17:00
So if there is a future where collaboratively mapping could be economically competitive, how do we go about actually getting there?  I actually think we’re further than many might think, though I believe there is still a lot of work to be done, innovating with the tools, communities and workflows to make this happen.  But [...]

JSR-275 And why GeoTools does not care yet

Vie, 20/07/2007 - 17:00
The deadline for JSR0275 is coming up on July 8th, as one of the top users of the JSR108 (which was withdrawn) you would think GeoTools would care about what is going on ... here is why we don't: Java 1.4 2007-07-05T20:40:49Z jive

Mike Frumin, who has been actively working with GeoServer and OpenLayers the past few months, has just released the culmination of his work for the Regional Planning Association. FOSS4G 2007: Too much goodness!

Vie, 20/07/2007 - 05:00
Over 200 proposals were made for presentations at FOSS4G 2007. Narrowing these down to the required 120 would be an impossible task for one committee, so we’ve taken the community-based approach of allowing you to choose your favourites. I completed my selection this morning, after visiting the website and getting an email telling me how [...] 2007-06-30T19:07:23Z Jason Birch

Honeymoon Time

Vie, 20/07/2007 - 05:00
As of 5PM today, I will be unavailable on the web until July 9th. I’m going on a honeymoon, and I’m leaving my computer offline for the entire trip. (Yes, I am a workaholic. Heck, I committed to OpenLayers less than 2 hours before my wedding.) So, although I will be at home slightly more [...]

I Heart KML Schema!

Vie, 20/07/2007 - 05:00
Recently, Chris over at FortiusOne has written a couple articles, focusing largely on the Schema tag in KML. One thing in particular from this article got me thinking: Google Earth will display your custom fields in the markers that get displayed in a Schema-based KML file, but it’s still up to you to make a [...] 2007-06-29T06:29:40Z Jason Birch
